Arsenal have reportedly stepped up their efforts in a bid to sign Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres after turning away from a deal for Benjamin Sesko.
Arsenal are reportedly in advanced negotiations to sign Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, prioritising the Swede over another target, Benjamin Sesko.
Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports that Arsenal believe they are close to finalising a deal for Gyokeres and have already agreed to a five-year contract with the player.
Gyokeres is reportedly seeking a move away from Sporting this summer, claiming the club hasn’t honoured a gentleman’s agreement to allow him to leave for a reduced fee.

Sporting president Federico Varandas has stated the club is willing to let Gyokeres depart for less than his release clause but insists on a fair price for the Portuguese league’s top scorer.
Italian giants Juventus have identified three players they want to offer Manchester United in exchange for unwanted winger Jadon Sancho.
Sporting Maintain Firm Stance on Viktor Gyokeres
Referencing recent transfer fees, Varandas told O Jogo: “Sporting doesn’t need to sell him, but we understand Viktor’s aspirations. We’re not demanding his full release clause and will be reasonable. However, considering players like Zubimendi, Cunha, and Mbeumo, we expect a fair valuation for a player of Gyokeres’ quality.”
Fabrizio Romano reports that Gyokeres feels “betrayed and tired” by the club’s stance and has informed Sporting he won’t return.
Gyokeres’ impressive 39 goals in 33 league appearances last season, the highest tally in Europe’s top 10 leagues, has understandably attracted significant interest.

Brentford have opened up regarding the future of in-demand forward Bryan Mbeumo who is wanted by Manchester United although the Red Devils have had two bids rejected.
Arsenal’s pursuit of Gyokeres likely signals the end of their interest in RB Salzburg’s Benjamin Sesko.
