DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa has now stated that opposition MPs are moving an impeachment motion seeking to remove Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen from office over his shoot-to-kill order.

While speaking in Githurai on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, after visiting the family of slain mask seller Boniface Kariuki, Wamalwa stated that opposition MPs are tabling an impeachment motion against the CS for Interior and that he and Kalonzo will whip their MPs from their parties to support and vote for Murkomen’s impeachment.

“And we are urging our members of parliament, who are bringing an impeachment motion against Bwana Murkomen, to support the impeachment motion for one Murkomen as CS interior,” Eugene Wamalwa said.

This comes after his controversial shoot-to-kill order, issued on June 26, 2025, during visits to police stations following the violent Gen Z protests, which have sparked widespread outrage.

The directive, which targeted individuals approaching police stations with ill intent, has been condemned by human rights groups, lawyers, and politicians as reckless and unconstitutional, with concerns that it could incite extrajudicial killings.

Other leaders, including Raila Odinga and the Law Society of Kenya, argue that it undermines the rule of law. Murkomen later clarified that his remarks were misinterpreted, citing legal provisions in his defence.

Other demands

He said this while in the company of Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka at the home of slain mask seller Boniface Mwangi, who succumbed to head injuries at Kenyatta National Hospital on Tuesday, June 29, after being shot by a police officer at close range during justice for Albert Ojwang’s protests.

Wamalwa assured the family of support and said that he, Kalonzo, Martha Karua, and Ndegwa Njiru will stand with the family in their quest for justice over the death of the slain mask seller.

Should this go as intended by the opposition, Murkomen will be the second Cabinet Secretary after the former Agriculture CS Mithika Linturi to ever face an impeachment motion.
