Kirinyaga Woman Representative Njeri Maina has confirmed that DCP Youth Leader Wanjiku Thiga was arrested by police officers and is currently being held at the Ruiru Police Station.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, through her X account, Maina stated that she was taken into custody around midday in the Kamakis area, sparking concern among political allies and on social media platforms.

Maina, a vocal supporter of former deputy president Rigathi Gachagua, voiced serious reservations about the circumstances surrounding the arrest.
She said the officers at Ruiru station appeared uncertain about the reasons behind the detention. “Wanjiku Thiga is being held at Ruiru police station; the officers within the station claim not to know what they’re holding her for,” Maina wrote, underlining what she described as a troubling lack of transparency and accountability.
Thiga, who serves as National Youth Leader and Member of the National Executive Committee of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), earlier tweeted to announce that she had been abducted at Kamakis.

Her detention has raised red flags among civil society groups and legal experts, who warn it may signal a disturbing trend of politically charged arrests.
Observers highlight that proper due process, including access to legal counsel and formal charges, must be upheld in such cases.
Ultimatum
Maina has urged a swift response from law enforcement, demanding clarity and fair treatment for Thiga: “The OCS, DCIO & OCPD have conveniently made themselves scarce… Release Wanjiku or charge her immediately,” she said, stressing urgency.
This call comes amid heightened scrutiny over recent police conduct and growing public unease over potential abuses of power.
As the situation develops, attention now turns to how authorities will respond, whether by formally charging Thiga or freeing her without prejudice.
Public and legal watchdogs remain vigilant, watching for signs that democratic rights are being respected.
