Lawyer Petitions LSK to Remove Murkomen and Kindiki from Roll of Advocates

A lawyer from Nairobi has asked the Law Society of Kenya to take Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki off the Roll of Advocates. The lawyer accuses them of being involved in government-backed violence during recent protests.

Advocate Kepha Ojijo filed the petition, which the Law Society of Kenya got on Monday. Ojijo claims the two leaders broke the Advocates’ Code of Conduct and acted while working in top government security positions.

Ojijo argues that Murkomen and Kindiki, in their roles managing Interior and National Administration supervised police actions that caused deaths, injuries, kidnappings, and the disappearance of young activists during the 2024 and 2025 Gen Z protests nationwide.

“The respondents still call themselves advocates while allowing state-backed violence,” the motion says. “This misguides the public and undermines the reputation of the legal profession.”

The petition also blames CS Murkomen and Deputy President Kindiki for showing no responsibility or regret over the police brutality seen during the Gen Z protests. Instead, it says the two praised law enforcement despite reports of serious human rights violations.

Lawyer Kepha Ojijo, who brought the motion forward, is asking the Law Society of Kenya to organize a Special General Meeting so members can decide if the two leaders should be removed from the Roll of Advocates. He also suggests taking the matter to the Advocates Disciplinary Tribunal to take further steps.

Ojijo writes in his submission, “If the respondents want to join politics, they should do so without acting as advocates.”

DP Kindiki and CS Murkomen started their careers as lawyers and later advanced to senior government positions.
