Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has described the impeachment of the former Deputy President and the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua as a blessing to the nation.

Speaking during an interview with Oga Obinna on Monday night, June 30, 2025, Salasya said that during his tour in Juja, Kiambu County, while promoting his presidential bid, he told residents that the separation of President William Ruto and Gachagua was the greatest thing that had ever happened, describing it as a blessing for Kenyans.

He added that, had the split not occurred, Kenya would have plunged into deeper trouble.

“I told people of Juja when I was in Githurai that the separation of Ruto and Gachagua was the best thing that ever happened, it was a blessing to Kenyans because if it could not have happened, Kenya ingezama,” Salasya claimed.

The youthful lawmaker added that the impeachment had served as a wake-up call for Gachagua, explaining that it allowed God to elevate him, likening the former deputy president to Moses from the Bible.

“And that was a wake-up call for Gachagua, so that God raises him and comes and exposes the government, he is like Moses of the Bible,” he added.

On 8 October 2024, Gachagua was impeached by the National Assembly on 11 separate charges. He filed legal challenges against the impeachment, but they were rejected by the High Court.

Salasya’s presidential bid

Salasya, who is eyeing the presidency, promised to take good care of Gachagua if elected president in 2027, noting that the former deputy president is playing a crucial role in salvaging the country.

Nanikipata president, nt nitakumbuka yeye siwezi mwacha kwa sababu he is playing a role, we are going to Cannan, Kenya is going to Cannan and I am the one to take them there,” he said.

The vocal parliamentarian, on June 27, 2025, declared that he will be the most loved president the country has ever had since independence.

“The respect that KDF has gained from Gen Z is the kind of respect and honour I am bringing to the governance of this country, where the voices of people shall be heard and acted on,” he said.

“I will respect the youth, the elderly, and even children as the president. I will be the most loved president Kenya has ever had since independence.”
