Kenya Power announces blackout in parts of Nairobi, Kiambu and Kwale on July 1

Kenya Power has announced a planned power interruption affecting several parts of the country on Tuesday, July 1, 2025, as part of scheduled maintenance works on its distribution network.

In a public notice issued by the utility firm on Monday, June 30, 2025, areas in Nairobi County such as Eastleigh, including parts of California Estate, Mabruk, Pumwani Hospital, Care Hospital, Pumwani Highrise Flats, Family Bank, Gikomba, Hass Petrol, BBS Mall, Atis, Starehe Boys, St. Bridget, Pumwani Boys, Nairobi East Hospital, and parts of Old Racecourse Estate, will be without electricity between 9.00 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

“Nairobi region: Part of California Est, Mabruk, Pumwani Hosp, Care Hosp, Pumwani Highrise Flats, Family Bank, Gikomba, Hass Petrol, BBS Mall, Atis, Starehe Boys, St. Bridget, Pumwani Boys, Eastleigh, Nairobi East Hosp, Part of Old Racecourse Est & adjacent customers,” Kenya Power wrote.

The outage will also affect parts of Kibera, including Raila Estate, Soweto Academy, Fort Jesus, Kibera NHC, Karanja Road, Kibera Makina, Kibera Law Courts, Kibera Olympic Estate Primary and Secondary School, Gatwekera, SHOFCO, Kisumu Ndogo and adjacent customers, for the same duration.

In Kiambu

In Kiambu County, areas such as Kahawa Wendani and Kahawa Sukari will be impacted.

The entire Kahawa Sukari Estate, Felma Shopping Centre, parts of Kenyatta University, China Square, KU Mortuary, Clean Shelf Supermarket, Magunas, Quickmart Supermarket, Wendani Hospital, Shell Petrol Station, Naivas Supermarket, and Uhuru Kenyatta Primary and Secondary Schools will also experience the outage from 9.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m.

In Kitui County, the blackout will affect Kyango, Muambani, Kinakone, Kiangwa, Kalwasi, Mwania Ngombe, Voo, Kalalani and surrounding areas during the same period.

Kenya Power has further indicated that residents in North Rift Region within parts of Uasin Gishu County, specifically Belkenya, Ngechek, Ngeria, Ndupenet, Lelboinet, Kapnyamisa, Megun, Teigut, Kipchamo, Ngara Falls, Mogoget, Mateget and nearby areas, will face power outages from 10.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.

In the Western Region, customers in Vihiga County living around Sabatia, Chamakanga, Mululu, Busweta, Sabatia Eye Hospital, Vokoli, Kwa Shem, Mago, Sabatia CDF, Ikobelo, Mudungu and adjacent locations should also prepare for a full-day interruption between 8.30 a.m. and 5.00 p.m.

Meanwhile, in Kwale County, parts of Diani will also be affected.

Businesses and facilities such as Carrefour Supermarket, Swahili Beach Resort, Kaskazi Resort, Diani Shopping Centre, Trade Winds, Diani Sea Resort, Chandarana Supermarket, Diani Marine and surrounding customers will have their electricity supply interrupted from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m.
