Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has paid a visit to the family of Satia, a 17-year-old teenager shot and killed by security officers during the June 25, 2025, demonstration in Rongai, Kajiado County.

Taking to his official social media channels on Sunday, June 29, 2025, Salasya expressed deep concern over the conduct of Rongai officers during protests and called for an official investigation into their actions.

He emphasised that such recurrent violence by law enforcement is unacceptable and must be addressed to prevent further loss of life.

“Today I visited the family of Satia, who lost his son of 17 years through the hands of a rogue during the June 25th demonstration in Rongai. These Rongai officers must be investigated every time in demonstrations; they must kill,” Salasya said.

“I lost as a constituency of Mumias East from Nairobi here. Freedom is coming. The boy was just a welder from a humble family background.”

Family’s plea

Salasya’s visit comes a day after he disclosed that the deceased’s family reached out to him for help.

Taking to his official Instagram account on the night of Saturday, June 28, 2025, Salasya stated that the family of Eyan Sabatia Opango, who is his constituent, had contacted him.

According to Salasya, the teenager comes from a humble family in Mung’ang’a, Buloma village, in Mumias East, and was among the Gen Zs who joined the June 25 demonstrations in Rongai.

“I have lost a young soul, only 17 years old. Eyan Sabatia Opango, from a humble family in MUNGA’NGA, Buloma village, Mumias East, was among the Gen Z who joined the June 25th demonstrations in Rongai,” Salasya stated.

He went ahead to note that the deceased, whose body lies at City Mortuary awaiting postmortem, was a hard-working welder and not a criminal.

The lawmaker has vowed to join the family on Sunday, June 29, 2025, to offer his support.

“He was a hard-working welder, not a criminal. He wasn’t out to cause chaos; he was simply a young Luhya boy dreaming of a better Kenya. As I speak, his body lies at City Mortuary, awaiting a postmortem on Monday. His humble family reached out to me, and tomorrow I will personally visit them to offer my support during this difficult time,” he stated.
