President William Ruto has announced the official rollout of the government’s national youth employment programme under the ClimateWorx initiative, targeting over 110,000 young Kenyans across the country.

Speaking on Saturday, June 25 ,2025 during the groundbreaking ceremony of the Railway City Estate Phase 1A housing project in Starehe, Nairobi County, the President said the programme will kick off on July 1,2025, starting with 25,000 youth from Nairobi who will be engaged in climate-related jobs.

Kwanzia tarehe moja wiki ijayo, vijana 25,000 tunaweka kwa mipango ya ClimateWorx tuwalipe mishahara wajitegemee hapa Nairobi,” said President Ruto.

He added that while Nairobi would benefit first, the broader plan is to employ more than 110,000 youth in similar roles across Kenya, noting the programme’s national reach.

“Hawa ni 25,000 wa Nairobi, lakini nataka niwaeleze vijana 110,000 katika nchi yetu ya Kenya,” he said, underscoring the scale of the initiative.

Ruto said the Climate Worx programme is designed to provide employment opportunities for youth while advancing environmental sustainability.

Activities under the programme include urban greening, waste management, tree planting, and restoration of ecosystems.

The Head of State urged young people to embrace these opportunities and stay away from political violence and destructive protests, referencing the June 25 protest anniversary, which saw parts of Nairobi engulfed in unrest.

Nataka niwaakikishie, hatutaki vita na fujo mji wa Nairobi na nchi ya Kenya,” Ruto said. “Sijuzi kulikuwa kuna vita, biashara zika haribiwa.

He expressed concern over the recent destruction of property and disruption of business activities, warning that such chaos undermines both peace and progress.

Tumeona biashara za watu zikiharibiwa, na hiyo sio njia ya kujenga taifa. Vijana mko na nafasi ya kujituma, na serikali iko tayari kuwaunga mkono,” he added.

The President’s remarks came as he launched the Boma Yangu Railway City Estate Phase 1A, an affordable housing project that will deliver over 2,200 units as part of the government’s broader plan to increase access to decent housing.
