Today, the Minister of Internal Security Kipchumba Murkomen He visited the city center of Nairobi (CBD) to assess the situation after the unrest.

Speaking during a press conference, Murkomen strongly condemned the violence that emerged under the shadow of peaceful protests.

“Kenya witnessed the incidence of pain and violence in the name of the right of peaceful protests,” He said.

“I want to say without a code that we condemn criminals who invaded in the name of peaceful protests and brought a tide of violence, looting, rape and destruction to our people.”

Murkomen revealed that more than ten people were killed during the chaos, while investigations continue to determine the total number of deaths.

In addition, he reported that more than 400 people were injured, including about 300 police officers, some of them suffering permanent injuries.

Important government institutions were also hit by attacks.

The minister explained that nine police stations were raided, and of these, five – including Dagoretti, Molo, and Ol Kalou – were burned.

“88 police vehicles have been damaged, along with 27 government vehicles from national and county departments. More than 65 civilian vehicles, including school buses parked at police stations, were also set on fire,” He said.

Murkomen added that some of the attackers were aimed at stealing weapons and police uniforms.

“Five weapons were stolen from the Dagoretti police station in Kiambu County, while four others were burned at the Gachui police station,” He explained.

Government offices, courts, and essential infrastructure such as roads, railways, electrical and water systems were also not configured.

The CS also expressed his concern about the attack on officials considered to be on the government.

The houses and business of political leaders as a majority leader in parliament Kimani Ichung’wah, Molo MP Kimani Kuria, Mathira MP Erick Wamumbi, and Kieni MP Njoroge Wainaina were reportedly attacked.

“This was not just a violence. It was a planned terrorist campaign – an attack on our people, our constitution, our institutions, our values, and the spirit of our nation,” Murkomen insisted.

In another move, Murkomen pointed out that Wednesday’s protest was more than regular protests.

He claimed that there was an influence from the most influential political power that sparked the protests, while protesters in areas like Thika And the Kiambu Road was heard screaming about taking power and invading the White House.

The minister noted that the Criminal Investigation Department (DCI) had initiated an investigation to identify people who sponsored and organized the violence.
