Thika: A college student friend killed in protest recalls their friendship before death

A friend of the Thika College student who died on The procession On June 25 he has narrated the last times he spent with him before the tragedy.

Victor Otieno, 24-year-old Gen-Z, was killed in a shooting at the peak of protests in Juja, with his last photos and videos spread.

His colleague, Samuel, reported that they were watching protests online when Victor recommended that they join the protesters to exercise their rights.

“I insisted we continue to look at them at home instead, but he said it was our democratic right, I told him to accompany him. We walked until we met a group of protesters we joined,” He remembered.

Samuel said they walked up to Juja, in what he described were happy for both, while chatting and singing with other protesters.

How did Victor Otieno die in Juja?

Victor’s friend reported that in Juja, there was clashes between police and protesters who were throwing stones.

“At eleven o’clock in the evening, the police fired firearms in a row to confront the protesters who were throwing stones. Within a short time, I heard a voice like a roar. He narrated.

This was the last time Victor was alive because in the midst of the riots, he was killed in a shooting.

“I ran for a moment, then I looked behind me. He narrated.

He said the firearms were full again in the air, and he had to hide.

“I went back to look at his body 30 minutes later. I had to jump until he was shot. When I arrived I didn’t see his body. DCI and I couldn’t come, ” He said.

Victor Odhiambo’s father speaks

His father Victor Odhiambo also spoke to the media, while bitterly mourning his son, who said he was his hopeful candlestick.

He narrated that his friends and family phoned him and asked if he had heard the sad news of his son’s death.

“I received a phone call, but I couldn’t understand what the other person was saying. He narrated bitterly.

Victor’s father, Patrick, said after receiving the news, he traveled from Bungoma to Nairobi.

“Upon arrival I went to see his body in a mortuary, confirmed that he was shot in the head, I wanted to move his body, but I was informed by the staff of the mortuary that I could not talk to the OCS for investigation,” He said.

Patrick said he was confused because he was told his son died while trying to invade the police station.

“However, if you look at where my son was killed in a shooting, it is far from the station,” He narrated.

Despite negotiations with OCS and officials from DCI, he was informed that the body could only be released for burial after a corpse.

The video showed how Victor was interested in protecting himself from roadblocks while tear gas and bullets allegedly filled in the air during protests in Juja.

In another photo, he was seen walking with a woman, along with other protesters.

Juja sub -police commander Bernard Ngungu confirmed the death of the student, claiming that the deceased was one of the protesters trying to invade the Juja police station.

He claimed the police did not shoot him as alleged.
