Tharaka Nithi Governor Njuki praises residents for peaceful Gen‑Z protests

Tharaka Nithi Governor Muthomi Njuki has commended residents for their peaceful conduct during the first-anniversary commemoration of the Gen‑Z protests.

In a press statement issued on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, Njuki expressed gratitude to the people of Tharaka Nithi for maintaining calm throughout the day, despite the tense atmosphere in many parts of the country.

“I take this opportunity to thank the great people of Tharaka Nithi County for upholding peace today during the commemoration of the first anniversary of the Gen‑Z protests,” Njuki stated.

He specifically noted that streets in Chogoria, Chuka, Marimanti and other major towns remained calm due to the county’s cohesive and dedicated communities.

The governor also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to defending human rights and standing against political oppression and abuse, emphasising that residents will continue to prioritise peace, inclusion and constructive engagement, as the nation navigates its democratic path.

“The residents of Tharaka Nithi will always exercise vigilance as they protect and advocate for human rights. Tharaka Nithi will also express constructive dissent to any form of political oppression and human rights abuse,” he added.

Kisumu, Mombasa residents hailed

Njuki’s statement echoes similar remarks made by Kisumu Governor Anyang’ Nyong’o and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir.

In his statement dated June 25, 2025, Nassir commended residents for conducting themselves peacefully during the Gen-Z protests, describing it as a testament to the county’s democratic maturity.

“I wish to sincerely thank the people of Mombasa County for conducting themselves peacefully during today’s commemoration of the first anniversary of the Gen-Z protests. Your commitment to calm and civic expression is commendable and reflects the maturity of our democratic culture,” Nassir stated.

He noted that across Mombasa Island, the mainland, and its sub-counties, the day passed without any major incidents, highlighting the possibility of peaceful engagement even when advocating for justice and equity.

Similarly, Nyong’o lauded Kisumu residents for their restraint during the protests, contrasting it with other protests that have been marked by violence.

“I wish to thank the residents of Kisumu County for maintaining peace today during the activities commemorating the first anniversary of the Gen-Z protests. The streets in Kisumu City and other towns in our sub-counties remained relatively calm throughout the day,” Nyong’o said in his statement.

“The people of Kisumu will always be vigilant to protect and promote human rights in our republic. We will also express constructive dissent to any form of political oppression and abuse of human rights,” he added.
