Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has taken a swipe at former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, dismissing a recent meeting between Gachagua and a delegation of Maa leaders as an exercise in desperation.
In a statement posted on his X account on June 23, 2025, Ledama declared that the Maa community remained firmly aligned with President William Ruto and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga ahead of the 2027 polls.
“We have a few perennial losers who paid a courtesy call to an impeached individual named Riggy G. Get it from me, Maasai votes are intact and will fully support William Ruto and Raila Odinga,” he stated.

Maa delegation
Ledama’s remarks came hours after a delegation of Maa leaders from Kajiado, led by Senator Seki Lenku, visited Gachagua at his Wamunyoro residence, assuring him of strong backing from the Maa community in the 2027 General Election.
During the meeting, Lenku dismissed claims that the former DP only enjoyed the support of “two MPs” from the Maa region, stating that the delegation represented a fraction of the widespread support Gachagua commands across Narok, Kajiado, and beyond.
“As a community, we will walk with you. People claim that only Ngongoyo and Parashina support you, but are these people just two? This is only about 2%. We assure you that the Maasai stand with you across the Republic of Kenya, in every area,” Lenku said.

He further claimed that state intimidation was keeping certain Maa leaders, especially governors, from openly declaring their support for Gachagua.
“If the governors try to speak out, they are warned, ‘Wait, you will be dealt with.’ But we want to assure you that the Maasai are with you across Kenya, no matter where,” he added.
The Kajiado senator further revealed that Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) was targeting five parliamentary seats and at least 25 MCA positions in the Maa region during the 2027 polls.
Wooing the Maa community
Speaking at the same event, Gachagua announced a change in the launch venue for his Democracy for Citizens Party from Nairobi to the Maa region, with the event set to be held on July 7, 2025.
Gachagua urged the Maa community to permit the party launch in their area, explaining that the event was initially scheduled to take place in Nairobi but was disrupted by the state, leading to a cancellation of the venue booking.
“I request that you allow our DCP event to take place in your region. We initially planned to hold the launch in Nairobi, but I ask that you let us celebrate this event with you, the Maa community,” Gachagua said.

He went on to say that his previous meetings were often interrupted by troublemakers, but he believes that once the official party launch occurs in the Maa region, such disruptions will not happen.
“For this event, we need a private venue because, you know, when we hold it in the Maa region, there are individuals who may try to disrupt it. Now, the DCP is your party, and this celebration belongs to you. Please welcome guests and ensure the meeting goes smoothly,” Gachagua stated.
