Embakasi North MP James Gakuya has fired back at Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja after he came out to deny hiring goons who unleashed chaos during the recent protests that marred the capital’s Central Business District (CBD).

Speaking to K24’s Amka Kenya on Monday, June 23, 2025, the lawmakers asserted that evidence in their possession links the county boss to the chaos despite his denial.

The MP castigated the governor for talking out of both sides of his mouth, advocating for a rule of law in one instance and going contrary to this talk by unleashing the marauding gangs on civilians.

Nothing stays hidden

“I want to differ with him. In this social media era, there is nothing secret. There is communication between Governor Sakaja and his PA, communicating that they have decided to use goons to cool down demonstrations in the city. It’s not a secret. We cannot be peaceful when the manager of the city is chaotic. I’m calling him out to walk his talk,” he said.

“Today he wants us to agree that he was not part of that chaos, but I can tell him he can’t run away from this. He is well captured, and if he wants the evidence, I can send it to him,” he said.

The MP warned the governor to desist from interfering with the youth’s demos if he wants peace to prevail in the city.

Stay away

“My request to him is to leave the Gen Zs to hold their peaceful demos. Do not allow goons in the city if you want it to be peaceful. Let us allow the law enforcers to do their job. The police know their job. If you invoke goons, do not expect anything to be peaceful in this city,’ he warned.

Gakuya’s warning shot comes a day after the governor, on Sunday, June 22, 2025, came out to strongly denied that he hired goons to infiltrate recent protests.

He instead accused certain politicians of orchestrating a smear campaign to tarnish his reputation and gain political advantage.

“Fellow Kenyans, let me be clear: I have never, and will never, sponsor violence of any kind,” Sakaja said in a video statement released on Facebook on Sunday, 22 June 2025.

“My entire political life has been anchored on principles that uphold human dignity, the rule of law, and the democratic rights of every Kenyan.” He stated in his defense.

Sakaja claimed that certain individuals, whom he described as having a history of “violence, intimidation, and chaos,” had hired thugs to cause chaos during protests while falsely linking them to his office.

“They have even gone as far as giving them county paraphernalia to say they work for the county government or that they are my supporters,” he said. “Nothing is further from the truth.”
