Saboti Membet of Parliament (MP) Caleb Amisi has renewed his calls to ensure President William Ruto becomes a one-term president.

In a statement on Monday, June 23, 2025, Amisi indicated that the country risks collapsing under a second term of Ruto’s presidency.

“We want Ruto out in 2027, not because we hate him, we want him out because Kenya will collapse if he gets re-elected,” Amisi stated.

Drastic measures

The legislator equally called for drastic measures to ensure the president serves only one term, urging that any mobilisation tactic that can help to achieve this end was welcome.

“Kenyans no longer bother about Kikuyu entitlement. If Kikuyu entitlement is what will remove bad leadership from power, so be it. The goal is bigger, and the need is urgent,” Amisi stated.

“Any tribal mobilisation that will help remove bad leadership is gladly welcomed at this juncture. We will handle tribal bigotry when proper leadership is in place. For now, Kenya is at the red line, and we must never grow complacent at the ruin of our own nation.”

The vocal MP, who has been a constant thorn in the side of the broad-based government, joins a host of other leaders in the ODM Party, who have been labelled rebels for their opposition to the arrangement which saw Raila Odinga co-opted into the Kenya Kwanza administration.

Walking a tightrope

President Ruto now walks a tightrope after falling out with his former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, an astute mobiliser, with whom he jointly rode to the highest office of the land in the 2022 polls, to floor Raila despite having the support of the then government.

Gachagua has since embarked on extensive tours of the Mount Kenya region in what appears to be an attempt to ring-fence the vote-rich region in readiness for the 2027 polls.

He has equally forged alliances with disgruntled leaders of opposition parties, further strengthening his political clout and further lending credence to his future role as a worthy challenger of President Ruto in the 2027 general election.

While the ODM leaders in government insist the current arrangement does not include automatic support for Ruto’s second term in office, the president is engaged in a tricky situation, having lost the vote-rich Mt Kenya region, with no assurance of Raila’s backing.

The political arithmetic is further compounded by the Gen Z factor, which forms a significant bloc of the youth in the country, who are opposed to the current administration and the policies they stand for.
