Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has slammed his former boss, President William Ruto, claiming that he is not as smart and sharp as he had earlier perceived.
Speaking at a church service in Buuri, Meru County, on Sunday, June 22, 2025, the former second in command argued that he had come to the conclusion that Ruto was not sharp-witted after all, following his recent political manoeuvres.
Gachagua told the congregants that Ruto’s decision to pick former Prime Minister Raila Odinga and neglect the Mt Kenya region risks losing over four million votes from the region.
Democracy for Citizen Party (DCP) leader noted that any leader with Ruto’s experience would not make such a move, which he termed a blunder.

“I think we overrated William Ruto. This guy is not as sharp and smart as we thought. He has lost four million votes while gaining one million votes, and he claims to have 35 years of experience,” Gachagua stated.
“He has left what he had in his hand while following what is in the forest, then he is saying he has a lot of experience,” he added.
Don’t blame me
At the same time, Gachagua sent a message to the head of state, asking him to cast blame on him for what will transpire in Mt Kenya region during the 2027 polls.
According to Gachagua, as it stands, Ruto will not enjoy overwhelming support compared to what he got in the 2022 presidential election.
“I may not be more experienced, but I know leaving four-five million votes for one million, is not political wisdom. So please, don’t blame me, I am not the cause of your problems in the mountain,” the former deputy president reiterated.

Linturi warns Kindiki
Gachagua was accompanied by former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi, who warned Deputy President Kithure Kindiki of an imminent political betrayal.
The DCP national organising secretary told Kindiki that Ruto would use him and later dump him. He cautioned Kindiki to be wary, claiming he personally witnessed the Head of State discarding those who once served him with loyalty.
“Mount Kenya East and West, we shall not be divided. And you, Kindiki, your only role seems to be that of a person being used. I have already, and I am again, telling you he will use you and then leave you,” Linturi said.
