Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has once again torn into President William Ruto, this time accusing him of betrayal and hypocrisy over the sacking of Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mithika Linturi.
Speaking in Maua, Meru County, on Saturday, June 21, 2025, Gachagua said Ruto had deceived the people of the region by pretending to be a man of faith, yet behaving like a beast.
“Huyu William Ruto alitundanganya. Nani alifukuza Linturi kazi?” Gachagua asked the crowd.
“Mimi niulize wewe William Ruto.
Translation: “William Ruto lied to us. He came holding the Bible, claiming to be saved, but he turned out to be a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Who fired Linturi?
Let me ask you, William Ruto, were you a beast or not? You came here to Maua, slept in Linturi’s house, on his bed, ate his food, drank his water, and then betrayed him by firing him. Are you not a beast?
How can a man host you in his house, let you eat, sleep, and use his toilet, then you betray him?”
Gachagua went on to say that he had now united with Linturi, and they were forming a political alliance with opposition leaders.

Mithika Linturi’s sacking
Mithika Linturi was sacked over the fake fertiliser scandal that shook the Ministry of Agriculture in 2024. Although Ruto claimed the move was in the interest of accountability, Linturi’s allies, including Gachagua, believe it was politically motivated.
The former Deputy President is now positioning himself as a defender of Kenyans’ interests, even reaching out to other opposition leaders to form a united front against what he calls betrayal by Ruto. Gachagua’s statements signal deepening political realignments ahead of the 2027 general election, with former rivals now finding common ground to challenge the president’s grip on power.
