In a statement, seen by TUKO.co.ke, IPOA confirmed that Lagat was not interviewed by senior officials including the Chairman and Chief Executive Officer.

“Therefore, IPOA would like to report an investigation into the death of Albert Ojwang ‘under police protection as follows; yesterday (19 June 2025), Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat, came before the authorities as required by the preliminary call and dealt with the technical team dealing with the investigation,” The IPOA statement was partially studied.

IPOA said that they would like to set the same record that Lagat was welcomed by a technical team dealing with the matter.

This is contrary to a report claiming that Lagat was interviewed by IPOA chairman Issack Hassan, and CEO, Elema Halake.

“He was welcomed by a technical investigative team dealing with this issue. This is in line with the principle of protecting the integrity of the investigation and maintaining a clear separation between policy formulations and operations within the authority,” They added.
