Charlene Ruto has placed the blame on millennials for the current conflicts being witnessed in the country, pitting Generation Z (Gen Z) against older people.

In her statement on Friday, June 20, 2025, President William Ruto’s daughter argued that millennials have a proper understanding of both generations but have failed to step in and mediate.

She insisted that the millennials have abandoned the role of leading and guiding the young people, leading to frequent conflicts witnessed in the country

“I would partially blame us the millennials for the endless and senseless conflict between the senior citizens and young Gen-Zs. We, as the older brothers and sisters who understand both generations but have failed to mediate for peaceful coexistence, provide leadership and clarity in tough times and offer our young people guidance on alternatives that don’t necessarily lead to violent riots that only end up deepening wounds, encouraging radicalisation, and, in extreme cases, unfortunate loss of life,” Charlene Ruto’s statement read in part.

Embrace ceasefire

While calling for the millennials to take up their active role, Charlene insisted that it was time for the country to embrace dialogue to address some of the issues bedevilling the nation.

Ruto’s daughter argued that allowing cyberbullying and cancel culture to thrive risks ruining the country’s fabric.

“It’s time we embrace a generational cease-fire immediately and onboard more civil and objective-driven alternatives like intergenerational dialogues, policy recommendations, and actively lobby for sensible reforms,” Charlene insisted.

“Violence, revenge, rage hunting, cancel culture, hooliganism, cyberbullying, and violent riots will only erode our national culture, radicalise our youth, and induce dangerous instability.”

Comments on Ojwang’s death

Ruto’s daughter has been vocal in addressing key issues affecting the country, including the recent killing of Albert Ojwang.

On Saturday, June 14, 2025, Charlene revealed that she had requested the 106 young leaders present at this week’s cohort on leadership conversations to stand with her and observe one minute of silence for the life of Ojwang.

“As we concluded this week’s cohort on leadership conversations, I requested the 106 young leaders present to stand with me and observe one minute of silence for the life of Albert Ojwang. I have struggled with deep moments of reflection for the past few days to try and find context around what happened,” Charlene stated.
