Albert Ojwang: Dig Eliud Lagat interviewed for 3 hours about blogging murder

Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat, who is accused, eventually appeared in front of the Independent Authority to evaluate the police performance (IPOA) to explain his side of the story about the killing of blogger Albert Ojwang in the hands of police.

Lagat was interviewed by authorities on Thursday, June 19, to provide his information on the events that led to Ojwang’s death.

However, the session was held privately without a camera, leaving the description of Deputy Inspector General (DIG) as a mystery.

Lagat was mentioned as the protagonist in the murder of Ojwang ‘, as he was the complainant who led to the arrest of the blog that led to his sad death.

On June 4, the DIG, who resigned for a while on the issue on June 16, filed a complaint against Ojwang ‘to the Criminal Investigation Department (DCI).

It is alleged that the blogger published the content of defaming Lagat on the X (former Twitter).

The case was taken by a serious error unit of DCIwhich sent five of his officers to arrest Ojwang ‘at their home at Lida Center, Homa Bay County.

The officers arrived at Ojwang’s house on June 7 and arrested him in front of his close family, including his father and wife.

He was brought to the Mazwago police station before being transported to Nairobi on the same day.

The officers arrived with Ojwang ‘in Nairobi shortly after three o’clock at night and took him to the Central police station.

Ojwang ‘was placed in cells alone, where he was found dead a few hours later.

It was known that he was struck in the cell, which led to his death.

In an attempt to hide the truth of the killings, police issued a statement claiming that the 31 -year -old had hit his head on the wall, causing serious injuries that led to his death.

However, a body examination conducted on June 10 confirmed that Ojwang ‘was beaten, as confirmed by open head injuries, bruises across the body, necklaces, and blood residues in the ears and face.

The killings sparked outrage across the country, with pressure increasing demanding that Lagat resign and be brought before the law.

Approximately 20 police officers have been questioned in connection with the Ojwang ‘murder.

The OCS of the Central Police Station, Samson Talaam, is among those in detention for involvement in the killings.

Police Constable James Mukhwana is also in court.

Mukhwana was the guard of turns in cells when Ojwang ‘was brought.

In his shocking statement to IPOA, Mukhwana revealed that the order to beat Ojwang ‘was issued by DIG and implemented by OCS Talaam through subordinate officials at the Central Center.

He explained that four inmates were tasked with hitting the blog as teaching him “courtesy” for allegedly destroying Lagat’s reputation on the Internet.
