Jerusha Muthoni, a beneficiary of the Mukuru affordable housing project, has publicly refuted allegations that she is a mere prop used by the government. Muthoni, who received a house from President William Ruto, addressed these claims on Tuesday.
Speaking during the Kenya Urban Forum in Nakuru, Muthoni acknowledged that some Kenyans were accusing her of being manipulated by the government to sway public opinion. She also noted the circulation of photos of other women meeting the President, falsely identified as her, to further these misleading narratives.
“Some people say that the President walks with me in Kisii. Some say that I was in Kisumu cooking fish. Those are lies by people who are against this programme,” she remarked, asserting her genuine status as a housing project beneficiary.
“That is not deterring us because he said that he was going to uplift our lives through bottom-up. It is true that I have benefited because I have been brought from where I was, and I believe I will even go higher.”
Muthoni also dismissed claims that the government had seized her property after the housing launch. She mentioned that many individuals visit her home to verify her story and even take photos for social media platforms like TikTok.
“People come to my house to see for themselves. Some people even come to the house to take photos for TikTok. Some even claimed that my things were taken away, and they have been coming to confirm,” she stated.
