After a week-long period of mourning, Pastor David Mwangi, the father of celebrated Kenyan actress Jackie Matubia, was finally laid to rest in a profoundly sombre ceremony held in Githunguri, Kiambu County, on Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
The emotionally charged send-off drew a constellation of Kenya’s A-list celebrities who travelled to the quiet countryside to stand in solidarity with Matubia, who had first broken the devastating news of her father’s passing on Sunday, June 9, 2025.
Among those who showed up to offer comfort were acclaimed gospel singer Kelvin Bahati and his wife, socialite and content creator Diana Marua, who have since shared a touching tribute following their attendance at the ceremony.
In a heartfelt Instagram post published on the evening of Tuesday, June 17, 2025, the couple eulogised Matubia’s father in tender words, describing him as an angel whom the heavens had now welcomed home.
“Heaven has gained an angel,” the couple wrote.

They went on to reveal that they had spent the entire day—from dawn till dusk—in Githunguri to personally condole with Matubia and her loved ones and expressed their sincere hope that she would find solace in the days to come.
They also interceded for her, noting that they were praying to God to uplift her spirit and grant peace to her and her family amid what they described as an extraordinarily trying time.
“Spent the day in Githunguri, Kiambu, to condole with @jmatubia for the loss of her dad. May God strengthen them and give them peace during these very trying times,” the couple wrote.
In addition to their message, they shared a deeply moving video montage showing raw, unfiltered scenes from the funeral, including moments when inconsolable family members, among them Matubia herself, broke down in gut-wrenching emotion as grief swept over the gathering like a tidal wave.
One part of the video showed Diana, dressed in a flowing black dress and dark sunglasses, with a pensive and sunken expression as she walked silently with the procession headed to the gravesite.
Matubia’s father’s casket, which was black in colour, was placed beneath a tent reserved for the family at the centre of the homestead where the burial ceremony was conducted.
A majestic portrait of him was mounted beside the coffin, surrounded by a pristine array of floral arrangements that had been neatly assembled to honour his memory.

He was interred only a few metres from the family house, in a grave that had been cemented and carefully prepared, symbolising both permanence and reverence.
Guests, including several of the celebrities present, were seen taking turns to pour soil into the grave, in line with custom, before a pastor stepped forward to lead the family in planting the cross at the burial site.
Later, floral tributes were laid on the grave, and Diana was seen planting a single white rose, her movements marked by quiet sorrow, as the atmosphere grew heavier with emotion.
Also present at the ceremony were renowned comedian Terence Creative and his wife, Milly Chebby, who both offered Matubia a comforting embrace, standing with her through the heartache.
Kate Actress also attended, turning heads as she was captured arriving at the homestead clad in a sleek, figure-hugging black dress that mirrored the solemn mood of the day.
