Constable James Mukhwana, who was in turns at the Central Police Station on the day of the incident, admitted that he was instructed to organize the Ojwang attack.

Mukhwana revealed that he received the order from Deputy Inspector General of Police Eliud Lagat through the OCS of the Central Center Samson Talaam.

In his confession to the Independent Police Management Authority (IPOA) on Monday, June 16, he claimed Talaam ordered him to make sure that Ojwang was attacked by his fellow prisoners when he arrived and warned him to support his chief’s order.

“The command was to make him attack until he needed to be hospitalized, but not to kill him,” Mukhwana said.

However, the attack increased beyond what he expected. He said he heard Ojwang scream and rush to look at him, and found the blogger when he lost consciousness.

Why did Mukhwana admit in the middle of the Ojwang murder investigation?

Following Ojwang’s death, and amid public outrage, Mukhwana became increasingly concerned about his role in the incident.

In his statement, he explained in detail his private conversation with Talaam, who warned him against addressing the issue over the phone.

“My instincts started to bother me after two days of the incident,” Mukhwana recalled. “I sent the message to OCS, ‘Hello sir,’ but he didn’t answer. Then I sent him a message, ‘Are we safe?’ He replied, ‘Not bad.’ When I phoned him, he received and warned me, ‘Stop talking about this by this phone, I’ll call you with another line.’ I immediately deleted my text. ”

According to Mukhwana, Talaam later phoned him using a different phone line and insisted, ‘Don’t discuss this by phone.’

Talaam allegedly suggested meeting him face -to -face but did not follow.

Shortly thereafter, Mukhwana was called to come before IPOA.

Initially, he hid the truth, believing his colleagues would protect him. However, he later realized that they were pointing all the blame to him.

“On June 11, I gave a false statement thinking we were getting rid of it, but I realized I was being organized,” He said.

Guilty, Mukhwana returned to Ipoa the following day, June 12, to clean up and provide full confession. He said he looked for someone to accompany him as he decided to expose the whole truth.

The case is still being investigated while more officials are expected to be questioned.
