Jubilee Party Secretary General (SG) Jeremiah Kioni has responded to the Senior Economic Advisor at State House, Moses Kuria‘s recent declaration of interest in the party’s SG position.
Speaking to a local media station on Monday night, June 16, 2025, Kioni explained that the position of Secretary-General is filled through a democratic process during the National Delegates Convention (NDC).
He emphasised that such a role is not currently available and can only be contested during the party’s NDC scheduled for 2028; until then, he remains the duly recognised officeholder.
“The position of SG of any party is not a position available; there is a way through which you become elected, which is done through a National Delegates Convention. The next NDC of the Jubilee Party would be in 2028, so anybody who has an interest in such a position has that time to campaign.” Kioni stated.

Moses Kuria’s interest
This clarification comes in light of Kuria’s announcement, which has stirred discussions within the party ranks.
Kuria, on Sunday, June 15, 2025, shared a cryptic poster of his image and that of the retired president Uhuru Kenyatta, who is the current Jubilee Party leader with the title Secretary General, on his official X account, hinting that he could be on his way to join the party.
This comes days after the former CS congratulated Uhuru for gaining full control of the Jubilee Party.

In a statement shared on his official X account on Thursday, June 12, 2025, Kuria commended the fourth president of Kenya for reclaiming leadership of the Jubilee Party, noting that as political tensions and divisions in Kenya intensify, the party under his leadership has a crucial role in maintaining national unity and ensuring the country’s stability.
“Congratulations, my senior brother, President Uhuru Kenyatta, for winning back control of the Jubilee Party. At a time when there is a competition to burn Kenya through escalation, emotions and divisions, the Jubilee Party under your stewardship has a major role to play in keeping Kenya safe. The future is luminous,” Kuria stated.

Jubilee party
The backdrop to this development includes the Thursday, June 12, 2025, High Court ruling that reinstated Uhuru as the Jubilee Party leader, affirmed Saitoti Torome as the National Chairman, and confirmed Jeremiah Kioni as the Secretary-General.
