Former US First Lady Michelle Obama has praised her husband, Barack Obama, as a devoted and loving father in a touching Father’s Day tribute.
In a heartfelt post shared on Sunday, June 15, 2025, reflecting on their journey as parents, Michelle expressed deep gratitude for the unwavering support and presence that Barack has shown throughout the years.
She fondly looked back at memories from when their daughters were younger, noting how even during the most demanding moments of his presidency, he remained committed to being there for his family.
Michelle extended her appreciation not only to her husband but also to all fathers and father figures around the world who continue to show up for their families with love, care, and consistency.
“I love looking back at photos like this of when our girls were younger. @BarackObama has always been there for us, no matter what, even when it felt like the weight of the world was on his shoulders. We’ve always been so grateful. To Barack and all the dads and father-figures celebrating today, Happy Father’s Day!” she expressed.

Divorce?
The post comes just weeks after Michelle addressed swirling rumours about the state of their marriage. Speculation that the two were headed for a divorce had been growing after she missed several key public events that Barack Obama attended alone, including Donald Trump’s inauguration and the funeral of former President Jimmy Carter.
However, in an interview on the Work in Progress podcast hosted by actress Sophia Bush, Michelle shut down the rumours. She clarified that her absence from public events had nothing to do with marital problems, but everything to do with prioritising her well-being.
She explained that her decisions were often misunderstood. Many assumed that her actions signalled trouble in her marriage, when in reality, they were personal choices aimed at self-care.
“That’s the thing that we as women, I think, we struggle with, like disappointing people,” she said.
“I mean, so much so that this year people couldn’t even fathom that I was choosing myself, that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing. This couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? But that’s what society does to us,” Michelle added.
The former First Lady said she sometimes feels guilty for stepping away from certain duties, noting that women are often pressured to meet the expectations of others. Still, she made it clear that she continues to engage in work that matters deeply to her, from delivering speeches to leading global projects and championing causes such as girls’ education.
Love story
Michelle and Barack Obama have been married for over three decades. The couple marked their 32nd wedding anniversary in October 2024.
Their love story began in 1989 in Chicago, when Michelle was working as a lawyer and Barack joined her firm as a summer associate. Three years later, on October 3, 1992, the two tied the knot in the same state where they met.

The couple has two daughters, Malia and Sasha, who have both grown up in the public eye.
Barack Obama served as the 44th President of the United States from 2009 to 2017, becoming the first African-American to hold the office. Michelle, during her time as First Lady, led several impactful initiatives, including the widely praised “Let’s Move!” campaign that encouraged children and families to adopt healthier lifestyles.
