Gor Mahia Feel the Pain as Kenya Police Silence Shabana to Win First-Ever FKF Premier League Title

Kenya Police made history when Brian Okoth’s header saw them down Shabana to win their maiden FKF Premier League title in Machakos.

Kenya Police secured their first-ever FKF Premier League title following a 1-0 victory over Shabana in their penultimate game of the season at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Sunday.

Brian Okoth scored the all-important goal when he headed in 15 minutes from time to hand the law enforcers all three points when just one would have been enough to do the job.

Police started the match knowing a draw would be enough to win the title and it looked like that is how it would end as they played out a goalless draw in the first half.

Gor Mahia secured a hard-fought 3-2 win over Ulinzi Stars, but it was not enough to stop Kenya Police from claiming the league title.

The chances were few and far between in the opening exchanges with both sides cautious not to concede and it was down to a set-piece that Police scored.

In the 75th minute, and from a corner, Okoth jumped highest to meet the ball and plant a bullet header into the back of the net as Police celebrated a very important goal in the club’s history.

First Title Four Years Since Premier League Promotion

There was no way back for Shabana after the goal as Police held firm to win the match and the title, a first one since sealing their promotion in 2021.

It has been a quick turnaround for Police whose big spending has finally paid off as they needed just four years to be crowned champions, having come close twice before since they became a Premier League team.

The title win ends Gor Mahia’s stranglehold of the title as K’Ogalo’s slim hopes were ended despite their 3-2 victor over Ulinzi on Sunday and the two sides will clash in the final match of the season with Police with the title in the bag.

Police’s decision to part ways with Salim Babu and appoint Burundian Etienne Ndayiragije midway through the season has also paid off as the tactician masterminded the title win amidst tough competition from Tusker FC and Gor Mahia.
