Mumias East Member of Parliament (MP) Peter Salasya has criticised President William Ruto’s administration for spending millions of shillings on harambees.
In a statement on Saturday, June 14, 2025, Salasya stated that no country is developed on benevolence or tokenism.
Further, he stated that President William Ruto will lose the 2027 general elections despite donating money to the public.
“Can these Harambees solve the problems of Kenyans? Let them bring all they stole, but still wataanguka kura (they will still lose elections). No country is developed based on benevolence or tokenism but on policies that can make business favourable through the private sector,” he stated.
“I’m imagining another 5 years of Ruto in office; it will be a disaster. Sasa miaka tatu, lakini wakenya wamehema sana (It’s just three years, and many Kenyans have relocated).” We reject the Kenya Kwanza government at all costs.

Kithure Kindiki
This comes after Deputy President Kithure Kindiki led two economic empowerment events on June 13, 2025, which have cumulatively raised Ksh20 million, with the President and the DP contributing half the amount.
The programme has received criticism, with some questioning the source of the money and its accountability. The DP has promised to take the contributions to the next level.
Kindiki rallied a Ksh10 million fund drive in Mwala constituency, Machakos County.
“Nimeleta mchango wangu wa shilingi million mbili na milioni tatu ya rais.”
Loosely interpreted as;
“I have brought my contribution of Ksh2 million and Ksh3 million for the President of the Republic of Kenya,” he stated
On the same day, his entourage was airborne again, touching down in Nyamira County, where he contributed Ksh10 million in the West Mugirango constituency.

“Nimeleta mchango wangu wa shilingi milioni mbili na milioni tatu ya rais,” he stated
Loosely interpreted as:
“I have brought my contribution of Ksh2 million and Ksh3 million for the President of the Republic of Kenya,” he stated.
Furthermore, Kindiki utilised the two events to garner support for the government, promising improved delivery in the days to come.
“Hii kazi ntaipeleka faster faster, nitaipeleka mbio mbio kama gari ya miraa.”
Loosely interpreted as:
“I will do this job diligently and fast,” he added.
Speaking when he made the donations in Nyamira, Kindiki stated that the government is committed to constructing and upgrading at least eight key roads, including the 61-kilometre Eronge-Kebuse-Kahawa Border-Borabu-Omonyenye-Amakara-Isonge-Chebilati-Chericha-Simba Uti-Tinderet, for Ksh3.6 billion, and the 14-kilometre Keroka-Kebirigo road, which will cost Ksh1.5 billion in the devolved unit.
“Other roads include the Mosobeti-Kebirigo road that will be constructed at Ksh675 million; the Kijauri-Nyansiongo-Metemanywa and Gekano-Amabuko-Manga-Motemwamu roads in Kitutu Masaba Constituency; the Kemera-Kendege-Eberege-Keumbu road; the Chebilat-Ikonge-Chabera road that will connect Borabu and North Mugirango Constituencies; and the Tombe-Isinta-Mokomani-Getaru-Chabera-Ekerenyo-Koige-Nyamaiya road,” he stated.
