Veteran Tanzanian Taarab singer Khadija Kopa has defended her daughter, singer Zuchu, after critics questioned the legitimacy of her surprise wedding to Bongo Flava star Diamond Platnumz.
Speaking to SPM Buzz upon landing in Kenya on the night of Friday, June 14, 2025, Khadija confirmed that her daughter is indeed married.
“Nikah ilishapita, alishaolewa. Ni ukweli,” she confirmed.
She stated that the Islamic marriage (nikah) had already taken place and that Zuchu was now officially a wife. She seemed baffled by the ongoing speculation, saying those who had claimed Zuchu would never get married should now accept the truth.
Khadija was notably absent from the Walii ceremony, an Islamic tradition where the bride’s guardian gives consent for marriage. She explained that although she did not attend the ceremony, she had already given her blessing, which is what truly matters in Islamic culture.
When asked if the couple was planning a white wedding, Khadija said that decision was up to them. What mattered most to her, she said, was that her daughter had now settled down.
“Walii sikuwepo, nilikuwa na shughuli zangu maalum.Ukishatoa ruhusa, imekwisha hiyo,” she said.
Loosely translated as;
“For Walii, I was not there; I had my special engagements. Once you’ve given permission, that’s it.”
“Wao wenyewe wanajua, watapanga, la muhimu ni Zuhura wangu kaolewa. Mlilo kuwa mkisema aolewa, kaolewa, wanataka nini tena,” she told off critics.
Loosely translated as;
“They know it themselves; they’ll figure it out. What’s important is that my Zuhura is married. You were the ones saying she should get married; now she’s married. What more do you want?”
Her comments came days after Diamond Platnumz shocked fans by revealing that he had tied the knot with Zuchu.
On Sunday, June 1, 2025, he shared several photos from the traditional ceremony on Instagram, along with a reflective message about silence, patience, and handling false public accusations.

He hinted that many people had the wrong impression about his relationship with marriage and promised to share more of his story in the future.
His mother, Mama Dangote, also confirmed the wedding by posting a congratulatory message to the couple on Instagram. She praised the union and thanked God that the ceremony went well.
Zuchu herself seemed overjoyed. In a video that surfaced online, she was seen sitting next to Diamond in a car, smiling and calling him her husband as he laughed in the background.
Harmonize
Despite the celebrations, not everyone is convinced that the marriage is real. Some critics, including Diamond’s former friend and labelmate Harmonize, have thrown shade at the union. On
On June 4, Harmonize posted a cryptic message on social media suggesting that Diamond might have staged the wedding to keep Zuchu tied to the Wasafi label. He claimed he had once pretended to marry someone for the same reason.
The post caused a stir online. Some fans accused Harmonize of being jealous, while others speculated there might be some truth in his comments.
Surprisingly, Zari Hassan, Diamond’s ex and the mother of two of his children, came out in support of Zuchu. During an Instagram Live session on June 2, Zari praised Zuchu for being patient and loyal, calling her the girlfriend of the year. She urged Diamond to treat Zuchu well now that she was his wife and reminded him to also care for all his children from different relationships.

Diamond and Zuchu’s relationship has been anything but stable. The two have had several breakups and reconciliations over the years. In November 2024, Zuchu announced their breakup after dating for three years. She said the split was mutual and necessary for her well-being.
Diamond later explained that the breakup had been misunderstood, linking it to his scripted flirtatious behaviour on the Netflix reality series Young, Famous & African. He asked fans not to twist clips from the show to hurt Zuchu, clarifying that it was all acting.
