Who is Al Gore

Al Gore served as the 45th Vice President of the United States from 1993 to 2001 under President Bill Clinton. Before his vice presidency, he represented Tennessee in the U.S. House of Representatives from 1977 to 1985 and the U.S. Senate from 1985 to 1993.

In the 2000 presidential election, Gore was the Democratic nominee. He won the national popular vote but lost the Electoral College to George W. Bush after a contentious Supreme Court decision in Bush v. Gore effectively ended the Florida recount.

Following his departure from political office in 2001, Gore shifted his focus to environmental advocacy. In 2006, he starred in the documentary An Inconvenient Truth, which highlighted the dangers of climate change and won two Academy Awards.

Gore founded The Climate Reality Project, a nonprofit organisation dedicated to climate education and advocacy.

Why is he in Kenya

Gore is leading this year’s Climate Reality Leadership Corps training in Nairobi, aiming to equip East African climate advocates with skills to address the growing climate crisis.

This event is part of a global effort to build momentum for climate action ahead of the COP30 summit in Brazil.
