Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Eliud Kipkoech Langat has been widely exposed by the public recently due to the controversial death of blogger Albert Ojwang.

This is after it was confirmed that he was the complainant in the case that led to the arrest and the death of the 31 -year -old teacher.
But apart from the headlines, Langat is an experienced officer, a successful and respectable job, and has an important role in the Kenyan security system.

1. When was he appointed dig?
Eliud Kipkoech Langat was appointed in July 2024 as Deputy Inspector General (DIG) in charge of the Kenya Police Service (KPS), one of the two main pillars of the National Police Service.
He succeeded Douglas Kanja, who was promoted to the Inspector General of Police.

Prior to being appointed DIG, Langat was the Commander of the Special Service Force (GSU) – a military force under police.

He holds a master’s degree in military and peaceful clashes from the University of Nairobi, and a first degree in automotive technology from Eastern Africa University, Baraton.
He is also a graduate of the Kenya National Defense Academy.

For his best service, Langat has been honored with many national honors including:
Elder of the Burning Spear (EBS)
Order of the Grand Warrior (OGW)
Head of State Commendation (HSC)
Kenya’s Silver Star (SS)
These awards recognize his special contribution to national security and public service.
5. Has experienced more than 25 years of experience in police
Langat’s work has a history of over 25 years, having served in special units such as:
Unit of bombs and dangerous equipment
Criminal Investigation Department (DCI) where he led the reform
He is also a bomber and explosive examination.
6. He oversees the daily activities of the police
As DIG, Langat is responsible for the daily management, coordination, and leadership of the Kenyan Police Service.
He is directly involved in training, management, and ensuring internal discipline among police officers.
7. His complaint resulted in the complex death of Albert Ojwang ‘
Inspector General Douglas Kanja confirmed that Dig Langat was the one who filed a scandal that led to the arrest of blogger Albert Ojwang ‘.
In a press conference, IG said Langat complained that Ojwang destroyed his name on social networks.
Albert was arrested at their home in Homa Bay, and transported to Nairobi Police Station, where he was injured and later died while receiving treatment at Mbagathi hospital.
