Speaking before the Senate on Wednesday, June 11, IPOA Deputy Chairman Ann Wanjiku revealed that they had received evidence in conflict with a previous police report claiming that Ojwang had committed suicide.
According to Wanjiku, the IPOA investigative force revealed that the CCTV system at the OCS office of the Central Police Station had been played.
“The CCTV systems in the OCS office of the Central Police Station have been interrupted. Preliminary investigations into the death of Albert Ojwang in the corridor oppose allegations that he had committed suicide,” Said Wanjiku.
The revelation caused anger among the senators, many of them wanting to know who destroyed CCTV evidence at the Central police station.
Nyamira Senator, Okong’o Omogeni, prayed DCI Providing CCTV videos showing Ojwang’s trip from Homa Bay to Central Police Station:
“I believe you have CCTV cameras. If we want to track events before this young man is brought to Central Police, can we see those videos? This will help us to find out if he arrived alive or not,” Said Omogeni.
Kitui Senator, Enock Wind, also said:
“Ig Kanja, who destroyed CCTV videos on the night that Albert was killed? And you can’t tell us you don’t know because that will be a big problem.”
