Kiharu Member of Parliament (MP) Ndindi Nyoro has called for a thorough investigation into the murder of Albert Ojwang’, who died while in police custody at the Central Police Station in Nairobi.

Speaking on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Nyoro indicated that the current events in the country are unfortunate and uncalled for.

“The things we have seen around the intimidation of Kenyans are uncalled for and unfortunate. Many people serving in the government in elective or appointive positions have a choice that if you do not want the conduct of your work to be part of the public domain, then you have a choice to retreat and be a private person,” Nyoro said.

Only child

“The rights of Kenyans are clear in our constitution; it is upon you as a public person to read. If you don’t want Kenyans to write about you, then you have no business being there.”

The legislator sympathised with the parents of Ojwang, who revealed that he was the only child and that he had worked for 20 years in a quarry to put him through school.

“One of our brothers lost his life in a very unfortunate manner, and it is even more unfortunate to hear the father speak that he was an only child. What does it benefit you as a leader when you see those kinds of tears?” Nyoro remarked.

He called for leaders who cannot take criticism from members of the public to consider retreating from their jobs and becoming private citizens.

“What do you gain by doing such an animalistic thing to a fellow Kenyan? When a young person talks about a certain office held by an individual, they are talking about it because you are the one holding the office; if you have thin skin and you can’t take that, you exit,” Nyoro said.

Publish names

“As Kenyans, our expectations are that no one should try to gamble with the issue that we are dealing with in our country today. Whatever happened must be investigated thoroughly.”

“We are beyond that generality that somebody has been sacked. Give us the names. You can’t terminate somebody’s life because of your own comfort,” he added.

On Monday, June 9, 2025, Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, revealed that his deputy, Eliud Lagat, was the complainant in a case of false publication involving Albert. He equally disclosed that the deceased was picked from Homa Bay to help investigate the matter before he met his death.

“There was a complaint that had been launched by the DIG KPS about his name being tarnished. It is on that basis that investigations were actually being carried out because he also has a right to be protected by the same law,” Kanja said.
