Kenya Power has announced a scheduled power blackout that will affect parts of Nairobi and six other counties on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, Kenya Power announced that the electricity supply interruption, scheduled to begin at 9:00 am, is part of routine maintenance on the national power grid.
In Nairobi, the affected areas will include sections of Mukuru kwa Njenga and Pipeline. Among the specific locations set to experience power outages are Maziwa Stage, M-Gas Mukuru Depot, Villa Police Station, Wapewape Road, Embakasi Girls, Muindi Mweusi Supermarket, Chaminade, and St. Mary’s Hospital in Mukuru kwa Njenga. Other areas include Kware Police Post, Mukuru kwa Njenga Primary School, Kware Statehouse, Pipeline Chairmans, Muindi Mweusi Market Pipeline, and part of Plot 10 and surrounding neighbourhoods. The blackout in these areas is scheduled to last from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm.
In the Central Rift Region, Nyandarua County residents in areas such as Magumu, Ihendu, and Kenton will also be affected. The outage, running from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm, will impact Magumu, Matches, Sasini, Muchrue, Flyover, Whale of Ihendu, GOTV Magumu, Kanyua, Mutonyora A, B, and C, Soko Mpya, and the entire Viewpoint Magumu and surrounding customers. Nakuru County will see blackouts in Molo and Olenguruone between 9:00 am and 4:00 pm. Areas to be affected include Moto, Muchorwe, Isinya Roses, Gacharage, Chemusian Tea Factory, Taita, Kerinet Town, Seguton, Olenguruone Town, Olposimoru, Ambusket, Arorwet Secondary School, Tachasis Tea Factory, and Kiptagich Town and Tea Factory.
In Baringo County, residents in Bartolimo and Kipcherere will be without power from 9:00 am to 3:00 pm. Impacted locations include Bartolimo Market, Bartolimo High School, Kapchepkisa, Korkorwonin Market, Kasok Girls, Kimugul Market, Kakombe Market, Tirimionin, Kasisit Girls, Ayebo High School, Root Safaricom Booster, ATC Root, Kipcherere Market, Kipcherere High School, Koroto Market, and Sibilo Market.
In the Western Region, Vihiga County’s Shamakhokho Market and its surrounding areas will experience a power cut from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Affected areas include Bumuyange, Shamalako, Museywa, Hamisi, Chebunywa, Jepses, Gavudunyi, Jeblabuk, and the Bamboo Factory.
Moving to the Mt. Kenya Region, parts of Nyeri County will also be affected. In Kiawarigi and Kiamaina, the blackout will run from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm. Residents and businesses in Ngandu, Kanyama, Unjiru, Kiamaina, Kiamaina Coffee Factory, Giakomu, Kiawanduha, Thangathi, Grad Kago, Kanjata, Ichuga Secondary School, Gathumbi, Kiawarigi Market, Kiawarigi Coffee Factory, and those near Safaricom and Airtel Boosters will be affected. Another section of Nyeri, including Kirichu and Ndurutu, will face power outages from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. This includes Kirichu Market, Kang’ong’a, Wangi Water Project, Rosa Academy, and Ndurutu.
In the North Eastern Region, parts of Kiambu County will experience blackouts between 9:00 am and 5:00 pm. The affected areas include Murera Kimbo, Murera Coffee, the entire Mugutha area, Ruiru KU Model School, DC Kwa Kairu, GSU Ruiru, Spur Mall, NIBS, Toll Station, Ruiru Golf Club, Shell Toll Station, Mona Park, Mulberry, Kwa Chief, Wankan, Paul Mwai, Happy Church, Rubis Toll, Courtesy Beach, Titanic, Green Ridge, Mugutha Secondary, Murera Primary, Tumaini Catholic Church, Mugutha One Four, Blue Estate, Mukuyu Road, Judea Estate, PCEA Church, Mugutha Police Station, Neema Estate, River Line Estate, Dam Ridge Estate, Ruera Dam, Makaburi Village, Wa Kariuki, Apollos, and areas behind Spur Mall.
