In an related incident, a state of turmoil broke out outside the city of the city as human rights activists marched demanding justice for Ojwang.

Why was Ojwang arrested before his death?
The police chief, Inspector General Douglas Kanja, explained that Ojwang was arrested following a complaint filed by Deputy Inspector General Eliud Lagat, who accused the blogger of publishing false and scandalous information about him online.
Speaking outside the Central Police Station on Monday, June 9, Kanja said that officials from the Criminal Investigation Department (DCI) arrested Ojwang at Homa Bay after Lagat filed a formal complaint.
IG noted that his arrest is part of an ongoing investigation into allegations of false information, emphasizing that even senior police officers have the right to seek a legal solution.
He confirmed that the blogger was transported to Nairobi and taken to Central Police Station on Saturday, June 8, at 3pm, under OB No. 136/7/6 of 2025.
