Speaking outside the Nairobi police station on Monday, June 9, Kanja explained the main reason for Ojwang’s arrest by detectives.
Kanja said that Ojwang was among the few arrested following a complaint filed by Deputy Inspector General of Police, Eliud Lagat.
The police commander revealed that Lagat filed a complaint claiming that Ojwang and others had defrauded him online.
“The reason for the arrest of the late Ojwang, along with a few others, was that there were complaints filed by Deputy IG of KPS about the defamation of his name, so it was on the same basis where the investigation was ongoing because he even had the right to be protected by the same law,”Said Kaja.
Kanja also denied allegations that the blogger had not been registered at the Central Nairobi station after being arrested.
He revealed that Ojwang was arrested in Homa Bay and taken to Nairobi, where he was officially registered at the center at the OB 136/7/6 of 2025 at 9pm.
“On Friday, Albert Ojwang was arrested Homa Bay by officials of DCI for the error of publishing false information. Records indicate that he was transported to Nairobi, where he was interviewed by DCI officials on Saturday. He was registered at the Central Center under the OB 136/7/6 of 2025 at 21:35, ” Added a tribute.
Is IPOA investigating the death of Albert Ojwang ‘?
At the same time, the Chairman of the Independent Police Evaluation Authority (IPOA), Isaac Hassan, confirmed that an investigation into the incident had already begun.
Hassan has promised to ensure that justice is done for the deceased’s family.
“I saw Elder Ojwang ‘on the TV crying. Any parent would feel the pain after losing his son. I want to assure him and the public that IPOA will do everything possible to ensure justice is available to the family,” Said Hassan.
Why does Gachagua want Eliud Lagat to be suspended?
In the related statement, the former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua He linked to Lagat with Ojwang’s controversial death in the country.
Through his social networking page, Gachagua called on Lagat to be responsible for Ojwang’s death.
According to Gachagua, Lagat was the complainant in the case against the blogger, so he must be held accountable for what happened.
Gachagua claimed that the suspension of senior officials of the Central Nairobi police station is a way to fool Kenyans.
In a statement, Gachagua accused Deputy IG of conducting “torture rooms” at Kamukunji and Central police stations.
