Top officials in the National Police Service (NPS), led by Police Inspector General (IG ) Douglas Kanja and his deputies, are currently at the Central Police Station as the investigations and inquiry into the mysterious death of Albert Ojwang, a middle-aged social media influencer, heat up.
Kanja made his way into the station at 10 am, under a heavy presence of police around the station, both outside and inside the station.
The following occurred after a delagation from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) arrived at the station in the morning of Monday, June 9, 2025.
The IG and the oversight agency are expected to brief the media afterwards, with Kanja also scheduled to visit the city mortuary to view the body of the deceased, according to reports.

The death of the influencer and government critic on Sunday, June 8, 2025, sparked a wide backlash after a statement from the police claimed that the middle-aged man died after hitting his head against the wall while in custody at the station’s detention centre.
His distraught parent revealed that he had handed over his son to the police in good health and that he was notified of his death upon arriving in Nairobi on Sunday, June 8, 2025 morning.
The outrage prompted action from the National Police Service (NPS),, which moved in by interdicting several police officers following the mysterious death.
According to spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga, Officer Commanding Station (OCS) of the Central Police Station, the duty officer on Saturday, June 7, 2025, the officer in charge of supervising the cells, all officers on duty at the report office, and any other officer on duty during the incident were among those interdicted.
Nyaga revealed that the interdictions would pave the way for independent investigations into the incidents surrounding Albert’s death.
