Since his resignation on October 17, 2024, Rigathi Gachagua has been a major critic of the President William Ruto.

His language is full of harsh words against his opponents, and since then, he has led a strong opposition to the president with one central agenda: to make Ruto a one -term president – something that created the famous “Wantam” phrase.

Just a few weeks after he had entertained Kenyans with the “Wantam” phrase, now very popular among Ruto critics, Gachagua made another interesting statement – “Hi Cousins” – which has spread rapidly online and becomes a major conversation.

The origin of the phrase ‘Hi Cousins’

Gachagua made the statement during his visit to Ukraine with politicians with the same attitude to him such as Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

In his speech, Gachagua emphasized that the Kamba and the people of Mount Kenya are cousins. He warned President Ruto against interfering with a new political alliance between the two areas.

“We are macousin. The truth or lie? Hi cousins! Hi cousins! – said Gachagua in his popular speech.

After the speech, the phrase “Hi Cousins” was widespread online. Many people began to use the statement as the heads of their posts.

Some praised him for being a strong opposition leader saying his opposition was even better than the one headed by Raila Odinga.
