A swift response by the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) officials, accompanied by a security team, has led to the apprehension of three individuals involved in vandalising copper cables along Mombasa Road, near Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
When the KPLC officials and the security team arrived at the scene, they found about ten individuals using crude weapons to dig up and damage the cables. Several of them managed to escape, but three were caught, including a police officer.
This area has recently faced similar incidents, making the operation a significant step in curbing such crimes. The National Police Service (NPS) praised the public for providing crucial information that made the arrests possible.
“Today, June 8, 2025, the Kenya Power and Lighting Company (KPLC) Nairobi area security team received a tip-off about ongoing vandalism of copper cables along Mombasa Road, near Nyayo Stadium–an area recently affected by similar incidents,” the NPS stated on their official X account on Sunday, June 8, 2025.
The team recovered the vandalised materials, and the individuals are now in police custody as investigations continue to uncover more details about the incident and identify those who fled.

Gratitude to the public
The NPS expressed gratitude to the public for their vigilance, noting that the tip-off was key to the operation’s success. They also issued a strong warning to others, urging people to avoid vandalism and other criminal activities.
The police emphasised their commitment to taking firm action against anyone involved in such acts, stressing that these crimes disrupt essential services and harm the community.
Vandalism of power infrastructure, like copper cables, can cause widespread power outages, affecting homes, businesses, and public services. The NPS is now calling on the public to remain alert and report any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
This incident highlights the importance of community cooperation in fighting crime and protecting vital infrastructure in Nairobi.
