Nairobi: A controversial and chaotic situation erupted in court during the hearing of the murder case of the late Kasipul MP ​​Charles Ong’ongo Were, leaving the audience in a blow by the court hall on the brink.

What are the suspects for the murder of Ongo Were?

The murder case took an unexpected stream on Wednesday, June 4, when Ebel Ochieng Calo allegedly threatened to kill state prosecutor Allen Mulama.

Calo, who also holds the position as a member of the Lake Basin Development Authority (LDDA), came before Judge Diana Mochache in the Kibera High Court for a hearing.

The prosecution claimed that Calo’s threat was targeting Mulama, an official of the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP).

The sad statement is said to have caused Mulama to leave the courtroom for his safety, thus increasing significant progress in legal procedures that already had tension.

“The court heard from a court order that when the court took a break for the judge to give instructions, one of the suspects, Ebel Ochieng’s famous Dave Calo, came to a court officer and asked who the prosecutor was and threatened to kill him for bail,” The ODPP statement read.

The prosecution expressed his concern, stating that the matter was very disturbing and that they planned to closely monitor the police. They emphasized that immediate court intervention is required.

Following the details of the prosecution, Judge Mochache ordered the protection to be strengthened in the courtroom.

Mochache decided, noting that the defendant threatened to kill the prosecutor. Pointed out to be just utterance of words “This one we’ll kill him” It raised concerns about the safety of the Witnesses.

For those reasons, he said three defendants were denied bail and ordered the first defendant to be taken to Mathari hospital for investigation.

The prosecution, led by Jacinta Nyamosi, Evelyne Onunga, Allen Mulama, and Millicent Kigira, asked that Judge Muigai to postpone the request until a mental investigation of the suspects was conducted.

“The two suspects, Isaac Kuria, also known as Kush, and Allan Omondi Ogola, will remain in the Committee Prison while awaiting mental investigations. The case will be referred again on June 18, 2025, for instructions. The ODPP statement said in part.

The incident took place on the City Mortuary Roundabout Road on Ngong Road in Kilimani sub -county, Nairobi County.

This comes just hours after the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Renson Ingonga approved the murder charges against five people including Allan Omondi Ogola, the late MP in the murder of MP Were.

The suspects – William Imoli, also known as Imo, Edwin Oduor Odhiambo, known as Machani, and Calo faced charges in the Kibera High Court.

Were’s driver, Walter Awino Owino, was charged with murder and turned into a government witness.

Shortly after the court allowed the prosecutor’s request to dismiss the charges against Owino, a video expressed a strong emotion that showed the driver of the deceased in prayer with his family outside the JKIA law court emerged online.
