Mumias East MP Peter Salasya is set to return to his roots this weekend for a highly anticipated homecoming event after completing a month-long nationwide tour.

In a statement shared via his Instagram account on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, the youthful and outspoken MP, who has declared his bid for the presidency in the 2027 general elections, will be received in Kakamega on Saturday, June 7, 2025.

“On the 7th Saturday. I miss Kakamega, I miss Shianda, I miss Mumias, and I miss Western Kenya. The son of the soil has traversed the terrain, bending twigs and figs across the country, and he is ready to unravel the belief beyond,” Salasya stated.

Salasya’s homecoming is expected to draw thousands of supporters from Western Kenya, particularly from Shianda, Mumias, and other parts of Kakamega County.

His return marks the end of a bold political journey that saw him traverse regions as diverse as Eastern, Mt. Kenya, the Rift Valley, the Coast, and parts of the Maasai heartland, including Narok and Kajiado.

Nationwide tour

Salasya kicked off his nationwide tour on May 1, 2025, in Busia County. He moved with speed, hosting rallies, impromptu roadside addresses, and community engagements.

At each stop, he emphasised that his campaign was people-driven, not powered by state machinery or political financiers, but by what he calls unmatched charisma, strategic planning, and pure goodwill from Kenyans.

He went on to tour Mombasa and Kwale counties, further cementing his presence in the coastal region.

However, his time on the coast was not without drama. While staying at a hotel in Mombasa, he reported a disturbing incident where unidentified men claiming to be police officers stormed his room in what he described as an unlawful attempt to arrest and intimidate him.

The men were said to lack any identification, warrants, or legal basis for their actions. Salasya took to Instagram to condemn the incident, calling it a direct attack on democracy and freedom of expression.

He claimed the move was a desperate attempt by powerful forces threatened by his rising influence.

In his social media posts, Salasya questioned the identity and motives of the individuals involved and called on the country’s security agencies to take immediate action. He accused unnamed political actors of using law enforcement as a tool to harass and silence him, warning that Kenya was sliding back into authoritarianism if such incidents continued unchecked.

He also released a video showing the men in the hotel lobby with drawn guns, as onlookers protested their aggressive behaviour. According to Salasya, this was not just a personal attack but a threat to every Kenyan who believes in free speech and justice.

The incident came shortly after he refuted claims linking him to the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) or suggesting he is being sponsored by the government.

He said that he is not benefiting from any state funding and denied receiving money from any government officials.

This comes amid growing speculation over how the first-time legislator manages to finance his extensive travels across the country.

“Let me be crystal clear, for the avoidance of doubt: I am not a UDA project. I am not funded by the State House. I have never received a single cent, let alone Ksh 40 million, from Katoo Ole Metito or any government official. Full stop,” Salasya clarified.

The MP, who is a member of the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), maintained that his nationwide tours are the result of well-thought-out planning, widespread public support, and belief in his leadership.

“What you’re witnessing isn’t money at work. It’s pure strategy, unmatched charisma, and massive goodwill from Kenyans who believe in the future I represent,” he added.

As of now, the only regions he has not covered include parts of Northern Kenya, namely Mandera, Wajir, and Marsabit. He says he plans to visit those counties by air next month, following his homecoming.

“Only seven counties hili gari halijafika hii kenya but Mandera, Wajir and Marsabit I will use flight next month after my homecoming this Saturday,” he said.
