Political commentator Barrack Muluka has slammed President William Ruto for putting into practice some of the things he criticised when he served as the deputy president.

Speaking on the night of Wednesday, June 4, 2025, during an interview with one of the local TV stations that extended into Thursday, June 5, Muluka hit out at the head of state over what he termed as hypocrisy.

According to the seasoned publishing editor, Ruto has been cornered to the extent that he is now implementing the policies he opposed while campaigning for the presidency in 2022.

Muluka on Kazi Mtaani

Muluka further argued that the Kazi Mtaani programme that President Ruto has now embraced, despite dismissing during his campaigns as a diversionary, hopeless, and useless thing, is not going to cure the unemployment problem.

He went ahead to urge Ruto to focus on things that can generate employment and can be productive.

Muluka says the first in command should get off the car rooftops and sit in State House to do some real work for Kenyans to see.

Ruto-Raila unity

He also argued that the unity between Ruto and the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga cannot imply that the head of state has united Kenyans.

“When you want to look at my president, you see a president who is cornered, that the things which he was criticising are the things which he is doing. He said Kazi Mtaani was a diversionary, hopeless, useless thing, and that is where desperation is now taking him. We know Kazi Mtaani is going to give palliative relief, like taking aspirin, but it is not going to cure the problem. Because it is not going to reproduce wealth. The president could focus on two or three things that can generate employment and can be productive; let him sit in State House and get off car rooftops saying he is uniting the country, because he is not. Unity between himself and Raila Odinga is not equivalent to uniting Kenyans,” Muluka said.

Muluka, moreover, stated that the unity between Raila and Ruto can turn to work against them.

“In fact, it can only unite Kenyans in default, in their belief that he is not doing the right things and in the belief that the country is on the wrong trajectory,” he said.
