The Wiper Democratic Movement Party has condemned an attack on a Member of County Assembly (MCA), Jacinta Mwoni, during a funeral in Kitui County.
The party indicated that the attack was carried out by goons linked to a local Member of Parliament (MP) from the County, observing that the assault was not only a criminal act but also a display of brute misogyny and political thuggery.
“The violent assault on Jacinta Mwoni, carried out by goons linked to Nimrod Mbai, is not just a criminal act, it is a disgusting display of brute misogyny and political thuggery. She was attacked simply because she dared to express political support for Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka at a funeral,” Wiper Party Secretary-General Shakila Abdallah noted.
Politically targeted
“That’s it. A woman spoke, and men responded with violence. This wasn’t an accident. It wasn’t random. It was targeted, deliberate, and deeply political.”
The Party observed that the incident was among various attacks that have been targeted at women in leadership, noting that it originated from cowardly leaders.

“It is one more case in a long list of attacks on women in leadership. A warning to women that if you speak out and we will hurt you. We see it. And we are calling it out for what it is, gender-based violence in politics, carried out by cowards who fear women with opinions,” Abdallah stated.
Support for Kalonzo
“Kenya’s Constitution is not a suggestion. Article 33 protects every Kenyan’s right to speak. Article 38 guarantees the right to make political choices. Mwonı broke no law. She exercised her rights.”
Mwoni was attacked after she said that she would be supporting Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka in the upcoming 2027 General elections.

A group of men were seen accosting the ward representative in the presence of mourners. The attack was also witnessed by police officers present during the funeral.
“We are urging the government to take action on the MP together with his goons, because if left unchecked, this could result in injuries or even death to residents of Kitui County,” Mwoni remarked after the incident.
The attack comes just days after Kalonzo hosted key opposition leaders at his Tseikuru home, where he declared his preparedness to run for the presidency in consultation with his opposition counterparts.
So far, Democracy for Citizens Party leader Rigathi Gachagua and Fred Matiang’i have expressed an interest in running for the presidency in 2027.
