Elizabeth Chausi, the Kenyan woman who died under unclear circumstances in Saudi Arabia, has finally been laid to rest in her ancestral home in Vihiga County.
The repatriation of her body and subsequent burial were made possible thanks to the efforts of Kenyan comedian and activist Eric Omondi, who mobilised Kenyans through his popular Team Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative.
Omondi confirmed the emotional culmination of a months-long campaign in an Instagram post on Tuesday, June 3, 2025. He celebrated Elizabeth’s successful return and burial, revealing that the group had raised Ksh1.1 million to bring her home.
“Hey guys, you remember our sister Elizabeth Chausi, who died in Saudi Arabia 5 months ago? Team Sisi Kwa Sisi had managed to raise Ksh1.1 million, and we brought her home on Friday and buried her today in Vihiga County. God did!!! Team sisi kwa sisi we did it again. God bless you,” Omondi shared with his followers.

Elizabeth Chausi had travelled to Saudi Arabia in pursuit of employment opportunities to support her two children back home. However, her journey ended in tragedy when she died under circumstances that have yet to be publicly clarified. Her death left her family, especially her children, who are now under the care of their grandmother Agnes Mmaitsi, in distress.

Back in March 2025, Omondi took to social media to share heartbreaking footage of Chausi’s children, both of whom were visibly confused and emotionally affected by their mother’s sudden absence. The comedian expressed anguish over the situation, noting the children were too young to fully comprehend the concept of death.
At the time, he launched a public appeal to raise the Ksh700,000 needed for the repatriation and burial.
“Hey, guys…the story of Elizabeth Cheusi is sad. She left for Saudi Arabia to fend for her young daughter and son, she left her kids with her grandmother. She passed on a month and a half ago. The fact that her children don’t even fully fathom death is sad enough. They need to bring back the body and bury her. Their lives cannot continue,” he said.
By March 19, 2025, Omondi announced that Ksh200,000 had already been raised but stressed the urgency of reaching the full target. He urged Kenyans of goodwill to contribute directly to the grandmother.
“We are already at 200k, but we need at least 700k to fly her body home and bury her. Team sisi kwa sisi hii najua tutafunga leo na tumzike hii Saturday… let’s go… send whatever you can to the grandmother.”
