Ichung’wah says Koimburi was in a hotel enjoying luxury after faking abduction

Leader of the Majority in the National Assembly, Kimani Ichung’wah, has made a bold claim that Juja MP George Koimburi was not missing at all, but rather staying in a hotel and living lavishly during the days leading up to what he describes as a staged abduction.

Speaking when he accompanied Deputy President Kithure Kindiki for an economic empowerment engagement in Kisii on Thursday, May 29, 2025, Ichung’wah delivered a scathing rebuke of the MP, insisting that he is failing his constituents as he should be working instead of manufacturing drama through false abductions.

“You all saw it for yourselves yesterday on television — an elected MP plotting how to kidnap himself so that he can claim he was abducted, yet he had gone to sleep in a hotel together with his secret side affairs,” he said.

Ichung’wah then went on to claim that after the hotel stay, Koimburi went as far as tearing his clothes and sneaking into a coffee farm, where he lay on the ground in an attempt to make it appear as though he had been dumped there by kidnappers.

“Then he wakes up in the morning, lies down in a coffee farm, and rips his clothes, then claims that he had been tortured,” he added.

On that note, Kimani also questioned why Koimburi had been treated for injuries after the dramatic incident, stating that he could not comprehend what exactly he was being treated for, as it was clear he had not been harmed.

He added that the hospital where the MP had been taken for treatment must also come forward and reveal the truth about whether Koimburi had actually suffered any injuries, stating that the entire hospital incident had only added fuel to the fire in the already controversial saga.

“And I also want to question our doctors — and I said this yesterday in Parliament — even the doctors at Karen Hospital must be held accountable and uphold the oath they swore as doctors, and they should not allow their hospital to be used in these schemes and antics that are meant to stir up confusion and chaos,” he said.

Ichung’wah further insisted that Koimburi and his allies had deliberately staged the abduction to try and paint President Ruto’s government as corrupt and as one that has gained a reputation for abducting those who oppose it.

He claimed that the opposition lacks a clear development agenda for the country, and that is why they are resorting to such dramatic spectacles like the abduction.

He also touted that the government, despite persistent criticism from its detractors, is forging ahead with empowerment initiatives that are genuinely benefiting its citizens.

“These people behind that abduction are the same ones pushing for divisive politics, the kind of politics that takes us backwards — they are the same ones saying that when we do empowerment, we are doing something wrong, and they clearly do not understand anything about empowerment or the vision of the government we voted for,” he said.
