Deputy Party Leader of the Democratic Change Party (DCP), Cleophas Malala, took to social media on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, to express his outrage after the management of Kasarani Indoor Arena cancelled the party’s booking of the venue just days before the scheduled launch.

According to the DCP party, the party had initially written to the management on May 20, requesting to use the venue on June 4 for their official launch.

In response, the management declined the June 4 request and instead offered June 3, a date the party accepted without hesitation. DCP proceeded to receive an invoice and made full payment for the venue.

“On May 20, 2025, we wrote to the management of the said facility and requested to book the venue for the launch of our DCP Party on June 4, 2025,” the letter shared by Malala stated.

“We accepted the offer for 3rd June 2025 and were issued an invoice to proceed and make the payments.

“On May 21, 2025, Sports Kenya advised our party that June 4, 2025, was not available and requested that we book a day earlier so as to book June 3. The management confirmed our booking for June 3, 2025, vide Invoice No. SK/P1/399 VOL VII/39 and invoiced the party for payment of Ksh3,706,800.00. DCP’s letter addressed to the members

However, on May 21, the party received a letter from Sports Kenya informing them that the venue would not be available on June 3, or any time soon, citing preparations for the 2025 CHAN tournament. The letter advised the party to seek alternative arrangements.

“Vide letter REF.SK/BOG/04 VOLXIX/101, On May 21, in response, the management cancelled our booking indefinitely; they categorically stated that the venue would not be available on June 3, 2025, or any other date in the near future, and we should seek an alternative venue.” He continued.

The party now strongly believes that the indefinite cancellation of the venue is a calculated attempt by the government to derail its grand launch.

DCP maintains that the Kasarani Gymnasium is a public facility funded by taxpayers, and every Kenyan has a right to access it for lawful activities.

“The indefinite cancellation by Sports Kenya is an affront to democracy and a clear attempt by the government to sabotage the DCP launch. The Kasarani Indoor Arena is a public facility, and every Kenyan has a right to access and utilise it for the public good. Skiza Wakenya!” DCp says.
