While the incident continues to shock many, the Elder of the Luhya community spoke to TV47 and provided cultural information about Makokha’s sudden death at the funeral.
Growing up the false belief among Kenyans who responded in surprise, the elder claimed that such sudden deaths during the funeral occurred when the deceased had a romantic relationship with the dead wife.
“In the culture of the Luhya, anyone who has a romantic relationship with the deceased’s wife should not attend the funeral, otherwise he will fall and die at the funeral,” Said the old man.
The elder added that if a person must attend a funeral in such a situation, then he must go through a ritual of sanctification by the community elders.
