His disappearance sparked outrage among Kenyans and other activists who used social networks to call on the Dodoma government to comment.
The Kenyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora had to intervene and he was reinstated.
Mwangi was found left to Ukunda in a serious health condition. His colleagues claimed he had been tortured and could not walk. Later, videos began to emerge.
