Bomet Finance CEC Erick Chepkwony dies

Bomet County government has been thrown into mourning following the death of the Chief Officer for Finance, Economic Planning and ICT Chief Officer, Erick Chepkwony.

News of the county official’s demise has been confirmed by Governor Hillary Barchok.

Reports indicate that the county finance officer collapsed and died on Wednesday, May 22, 2025, evening.

“I was shocked and saddened to learn of the sudden passing of our Chief Officer for Finance CPA Erick Chepkwony,” the county boss’s statement on Facebook on Thursday, May 22, 2025, read.

Devastating loss

While expressing his profound shock at the news, Barchok condoled with the deceased’s friends and family.

“My heart goes out to his family, the people of Bomet, and the KTDA fraternity, where he served as National Vice Chair. This devastating loss feels even more profound as we remember how full of life he was just yesterday,” Barchok’s tribute continued.

In addition to his county role, Chepkwony also served in the Kenya Tea Development Authority (KTDA) as the national vice chairman, a capacity in which he championed agricultural development and advocated for farmers’ welfare.

He was elected as a KTDA board member representing Kapset/Rorok tea factory Tea Zone 9 in July 2024.

A month later, he became KTDA’s vice chair following the election held in Mombasa, with Enos Njeru retaining his chairperson position.

Senator Sige’s tribute

News of his death has seen an outpouring of grief, with area senator Hillary Sigei among those to mourn the county official.

 Sigei termed his demise as a great loss to the KTDA board and the county.

“Deeply saddened to learn of the sudden demise of CPA Erick Chepkwony, the Chief Officer for Finance in Bomet County.

His untimely departure is a great loss not only to the County Government of Bomet but also to the entire KTDA fraternity, where he served as the National Vice Chair.
