Charlene Ruto, the daughter of President William Ruto, has weighed in on the state of the youth in the country and the continent at large.
Issuing a statement on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Charlene observed that Africa has inherited a generation that is deeply hurt, angry, and emotionally charged.
She attributed her observation to repeated interactions with young people across Africa.
The First Daughter went on to state that the tension currently at an all time high is a call for action for leaders to flip the script on how they engage the youth and create safer spaces for them to share their ideas, stories, and expectations.
“The more I interact with young people across Africa and champion for more integrational dialogues, It is has become vividly clear that we have inherited a generation that is deeply hurt, angry, emotionally charged and tension remains at a constant high.
“It is a call to action for all of us to flip the script on how we engage with young people and create more safe spaces for them to share their ideas, stories, expectations and make them part of the problem solving journey,” she said.
Charlene, however, implored the young people to embrace civility and improve from being emotional reactors to progressive actors.
“On the other hand as young people we must equally embrace civility as we negotiate our way in the grand scheme of things. There is need to graduate from emotional reactors to progressive actors,” she added.
