Former Machakos First Lady Lillian Nganga has weighed in on the recent removal of nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba, highlighting the complexities faced by individuals in such political roles.

Taking to her official X account on Wednesday, May 21, 2025, Lillian emphasised that such positions require a careful balance, noting that those appointed are expected to align closely with party expectations and directives.

She noted that overstepping these boundaries can lead to swift consequences such as suspension or removal from the position.

“Nominations are always very tricky. One is supposed to toe the line and align. You overstretch, and you are out. Boring!”Lillian Nganga stated.

Orwoba’s removal

Lillian’s remarks come hours after the speaker of the Senate, Amason Kingi, in a special gazette notice, declared Orwoba’s seat vacant days after she was expelled from the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party.

“It is notified for the general information of the public that pursuant to Article 101 (2) of the Constitution of Kenya, a seat of the Member of the Senate elected under Article 98 (1) (b) of the Constitution, held by Senator Gloria Orwoba, has become vacant with effect from the 21st of May, 2025,” the notice read

Orwaba’s removals followed after the UDA party announced that it had expelled her over disloyalty to the party, just days after she associated herself with former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i.

UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar, in a press statement issued on Monday, May 19, 2025, noted that the party’s Disciplinary Committee had resolved that Orwoba be expelled from the membership of the UDA Party with immediate effect.

“Pursuant to Article 29 of the UDA Party Constitution, and having exhaustively deliberated on the matters before it, the Party’s Disciplinary Committee has resolved that Sen. Gloria Orwoba be expelled from the membership of the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) Party with immediate effect,” the statement read in part.

UDA also formally wrote to Speaker Kingi to initiate the process of her removal from the house, which has since been effected.

Omar further stated that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) had already adopted and ratified the Disciplinary Committee’s decision.

The party also notified the Registrar of Political Parties and the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) of Orwoba’s expulsion and nominated Consolata Wabwire Wakwabubi from the Kimilili constituency, Bungoma County, to replace her.
