The newspapers also focused on the divisions emerging within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

1. Daily Nation

The newspaper reported on the Kenyan Union’s first arrests of former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for alleged incitement.

Deputy President Kithure Kindiki and Internal Security Minister Kipchumba Murkomen led government officials to warn Rigathi Gachagua that he faces the risk of arrest for a criminal offense.

Kindiki and Murkomen accused Gachagua of using ethnic sentiment for his political advantage towards the 2027 general elections.

They warned him that he would be arrested if he continued to jeopardize national security.

Murkomen said that Gachagua turned his personal problems into a national crisis by incorporating the country into early campaigns filled with threats of violence.

“He should continue to scream and stir Kenyans. We will arrest him. Yesterday he said that if he was removed from office, there would be violence in Kenya; there was violence? No. When he saw no violence, he came home to pretend he was the one who calmed the people. Said Murkomen.

2. The Star

The newspaper reported about the ongoing divisions within the party of the former Prime Minister Raila OdingaODM, in connection with his agreement with President William Ruto.

On Saturday, May 17, Raila sparked further feeling that he might have a secret card towards the 2027 election after being publicly separated from his partners, including his own brother, about the type of agreement with Ruto.

The former prime minister publicly denied the allegations – including Brother Ke Oburu Odinga – that his ODM party was in government.

“Oburu says just gossip. I’m not in government, I’m out of government. Let them continue to speak,” Raila replied, which further exacerbated his political strategy.

After signing an agreement with Ruto in March, many expected the ODM leader to support the government closely.

However, circles suggest that the veteran politician is likely to be involved in a low political game, holding a secret card that can change the political situation for its benefit.

Many believe that Raila’s secret card may be the winner of the political race.
